Why shiver in Europe this winter? Visit us in our summer.
Thousands of tourists visit South Africa, especially during our summer season in the southern hemisphere. What is great is that we are on the same latitude as most European countries. Flights to Cape Town from major European airports are about 11 hours but with only one hour time zone difference, making the flight a pleasant one.
Contact us to arrange your stay in our countryWe Answer Your Questions
Major carriers offer daily services from the main European airports to Cape Town and Johannesburg. There may be more, but British Airways, KLM/Air France, Lufthansa, Condor, and Virgin are examples. We arrange your flight to Cape Town so that you do not have to worry about it.
For most European countries, travellers do not need a visa for short-term tourist visits to South Africa (usually up to 90 days). However, there are exceptions depending on the country.
Here’s a general breakdown:
- Visa-free for 90 days: Most EU countries (e.g., Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, etc.) can visit South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days.
- Visa-free for 30 days: Some countries, like Poland, may only be granted a 30-day stay.
- Visa required: A few European countries (e.g., Belarus) may require a visa in advance.
Important Notes:
- Passports must be valid for at least 30 days after departure and have at least two blank pages for stamps.
- Travellers may need proof of return/onward travel and sufficient funds.
- Visa policies may change, so it’s always best to check with the South African embassy or consulate before traveling.
As a major tourism destination, South Africa often welcomes visitors without requiring visas. Here is a list of countries whose nationals do not need a visa to visit South Africa. Note that this may change.
South Africa has some of the best weather you are likely to find anywhere. We have an average of 320 clear days per year. Of course, it depends when you want to visit the country and where you go to. For Point of Africa Adventure Tours, we concentrate on destinations in the southern and western Cape regions where the weather from October through April is fantastic. While Europe is freezing, you will not spend a white Christmas here. What's the weather like today in Cape Town?
Cape Town Weather
The Western and Southern Cape areas are safe and do not require you to take any preventative medication. An exception is when you are aiming to extend your stay in the country and visit the Kwazulu Natal north coast as well as the Mpumalanga Province, especially the Kruger National Park, where malaria is a problem in summer. Just to be safe, visit The Travellers Health website for updated information.
Please note that tours to these two areas are not included in our packages, but we can advise you on what to do, should you wish to visit these areas.
- First, we rental the vehicle for you and so you do not have to worry about it.
- In South Africa we drive on the left-hand side of the road, like in the UK. If you are not used to this, prepare to make a mind switch so that you do not turn the wrong way into a traffic circle (roundabout).
- Your country's licence should be just fine for the period you are going to be here.
- Always give way to the right.
- Speed restrictions apply everywhere. in urban areas, 40 km/h to 60 km/h; on major roads in cities, 100 km/h; and on national roads the speed limit is 120 km/h.
- Please, when you get out of your vehicle at scenic spots, be wary of wild animals, especially baboons. Do not carry food items with you as the baboons know this as food and will attack without warning. This is Africa and our animals are huge. These animals are everywhere and scenic routes used by travellers are targeted by baboons, especially Cape Point Reserve, Table Mountain, and Chapman's Peak Drive.
- Predatory birds such as seagulls will always be on the lookout for a free meal, so be careful when you enjoy your delicious snoek and chips in Hout Bay.
There is hardly a city in the world where there will not be any crime. South African cities are no different. You cannot avoid the risk, but you can minimise it.
- Keep valuables out of sight. That handbag carefully flung over your arm while you are taking a photo of Table Mountain is just what muggers are looking for.
- Never leave anything in your rental vehicle that will be visible through the windows.
- Do not carry cash. South Africa is a modern country and you can use your cards everywhere.
- Do not travel with your vehicle's windows open, especially in urban areas. You are inviting trouble.
- Do not travel alone. There is safety in numbers.
- Stay out of dodgy and/or dark areas. This applies especially if you are not part of a travelling group.
- Do not pick up strangers.
- Do not give money to beggars.
- Keep your travel documents out of sight. Nobody needs to see where you are from.
- The same applies to hotel room keys and cards. These can be identifiers as to your location and may attract unwelcome attention.
- Humans are not the only criminals you should be looking out for in Cape Town. Baboons, monkeys, and seagulls are always looking for a quick meal, and are attracted by shiny objects.

Cape Town, the Mother City, is where my ancestors arrived in 1652. I am proud of my connection to this beautiful country.
